NC boat registrations expire on a 1- or 3-year cycle. Here’s how to renew on time and what to do if you’ve lost your documents.

How to Renew

  • Online: GoOutdoorsNorthCarolina.com — you’ll need your renewal notice number
  • By phone: (833) 950-0575, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • By mail: to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission
  • In person: through a local Wildlife Service Agent

NC Wildlife mails renewal reminders, but don’t rely on them as your only notice — track your expiration date yourself.

1-Year vs. 3-Year: Which to Choose

1-year3-year
Under 26 ft$34$94
26 ft or greater$54$154

Three-year is the better value if you’re keeping the vessel. Choose 1-year if you’re planning to sell soon.

Don’t Let Registration Lapse

Operating on an expired registration is a violation, even by a day. If you’re unsure of your expiration date, check your registration card or contact NC Wildlife directly.

BoatForms keeps your vessel details stored for faster renewals and replacements.
