NC boat registrations expire on a 1- or 3-year cycle. Here’s how to renew on time and what to do if you’ve lost your documents.
How to Renew
- Online: GoOutdoorsNorthCarolina.com — you’ll need your renewal notice number
- By phone: (833) 950-0575, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- By mail: to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission
- In person: through a local Wildlife Service Agent
NC Wildlife mails renewal reminders, but don’t rely on them as your only notice — track your expiration date yourself.
1-Year vs. 3-Year: Which to Choose
| 1-year | 3-year | |
|---|---|---|
| Under 26 ft | $34 | $94 |
| 26 ft or greater | $54 | $154 |
Three-year is the better value if you’re keeping the vessel. Choose 1-year if you’re planning to sell soon.
Replacing Lost Documents
| Document | Fee | How |
|---|---|---|
| Duplicate registration | $9 | Mail or in person |
| Duplicate title | $16 | Mail Vessel Title Request Form to NC Wildlife |
Don’t Let Registration Lapse
Operating on an expired registration is a violation, even by a day. If you’re unsure of your expiration date, check your registration card or contact NC Wildlife directly.

BoatForms keeps your vessel details stored for faster renewals and replacements.
